Farida Akhtar, the interim government's fisheries and livestock advisor, believes that candidates should be elected through direct voting for reserved women's seats in the next national parliament election.
The advisor said, "The demands we are making now for reserved women's seats...we will have to make our utmost efforts in this election to bring it to direct elections. If we do it next, if we are told that it will be okay in the next parliament...we do not want to go into this hypocrisy."
She said this at a conference organized at the Krishibid Institution in the capital on Thursday afternoon demanding meaningful representation of women in national politics. The conference titled 'Where are women's political rights?' was organized by the civic organization 'Women's Political Rights Forum'.
