A group of employees of the Dhaka-based Bengali newspaper Janakantha, who were employed by the newspaper at various times after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 last year, have formed an editorial board of their own, declaring the editor undesirable.
In retaliation for the dismissal of some of them by the owners on Saturday, they have also filed a case against the owners at Hatirjheel Police Station in Dhaka.
Janakantha editor and publisher Shamima A Khan alleged that the Janakantha Bhaban was illegally occupied by conspiring to create a mob on Saturday night. His complaint is against retired Major Afizur Rahman, Chief Operating Officer of Globe Janakantha Industrial Group, Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) Joint Convener and Planning Advisor of the newspaper Joynal Abedin, as well as some Islamist journalists from BNP and Jamaat (Shishir).
